Once all of the stripping is done and the cockpit has been cut
and a 2" wide pine rim put on it sand it all with 80 and then 120
grit and then by hand with 80grit - be careful not to sand thru.
This shows my second kayak after sanding:
Next put a coat of Clear Coat epoxy on both the hull and deck:
Lay out your 60z fiberglass cloth and cut to rough size on the
hull:
Put on a coat of epoxy wetting out the cloth - put two layers
of reinforcement at the bow and stern:
Split the deck and hull apart and glass the deck:
Sand and scrap the insides of both and then glass them too:
Here's a view from under the deck:
.
Note that on my first kayak I cut off the tips of the
deck so that I could join the tips to the hull first and then the
rest - this way I could reach the inside seam
On my second kayak I added wooden blocking inside the hull and
deck and then just put 1/2" of epoxy on the blocking and mooshed
the deck onto the hull and then reached in right up to the
blocking - this avoided an ugly seam on the deck:
