Step 2 - Buy the Wood

I'm not very efficient at this (and since I've been laid off and have lots of time it doesn't really matter) so even though I list all the wood I bought is listed here in one place this represents many trips to the lumberyard. After so many trips sometimes I just go and look at the lumber out of some vague longing and habit.

• Wood for the hull
  Redwood is what you can get here in long clear lengths so that is the main wood I bought. I also bought some clear pine for accents. Here is my car after I came back from buying the lumber:

  That's right, I carry it all on my Honda Civic CRX. The secret is in the roof rack. People at the lumber yard often laugh and make fun of me in the parking lot - but it all gets home OK...
  

• Wood for the forms
  I bought a sheet of 1/2" luan plywood for this. I'm sure I could have just used cheaper CD CDX plywood for these - but I like the luan better and it makes a nicer end result.
  
• Wood for the strongback
  A sheet and a half of 1/2" luan for this. This really, really could have been the cheaper CD CDX...
  Also two 8' two by fours and an 8' two by six - both construction grade redwood since the regular ones were so green it would have been like nailing/screwing a banana.
